Po drugi strani pa:
Oh dear, not this old chestnut again...
For the record, "sloven" is the sort of word you find in a dictionary,
but which real-life English speakers seldom if ever use and which, prior
to encountering the Slovenian/Slovene issue, I had never even heard of.
As for there being a mental link or association between "sloven" and
"Slovene", it is about as plausible as a native speaker of English
thinking a Virginian is a virgin or that an Oxfordian fords oxen....
There is no US/UK divide between use of Slovene/Slovenian - Websters and
the Oxford English Dictionary state both are acceptable.
Rejoicing in the varied riches of the English language, I use both
Slovene and Slovenian, and am not afraid to admit it. :-)
