Drivers and staff at mozilla want to enhance and improve communication
and coordination of general Mozilla development and release work, and
the work happening on the Mozilla Localization Project. The goals of
this effort are to:

     * Raise visibility of key International and Localization bug fixing
and feature needs early in the development cycle.
     * Provide an easy path to get these key fixes into releases
       wherever, and whenever, possible.
     * Enable language packs to be created, and shipped simultaneous with
the initial release of all major milestones.
     * Provide a mechanism to get language packs on the CD distributed by
       the Mozilla Foundation.

We also want to organize efforts to get localization kits migrated to
the Mozilla CVS repository, but this may be more of an incremental and
longer term task that involves more work in the 1.7 and future
milestones. We want to get started on goals listed above for the
upcoming 1.6 release. To accomplish these goals we are doing the
following things.

     * We have created and posted a more detailed
       http://mozilla.org/roadmap/release-status.html with events and
dates listed for the release cycle, and including dates for things
like localization freezes, and cut off dates for collecting
language packs for shipping on the CD, etc.
     * We would also like to schedule quarterly conference calls where we
can discuss critical I18n and L10n bugs that need to be on the
radar for drivers in the current and future release cycles, and to
get rough planning estimates on then language packs will be,
prepared, tested, and available to ship on the CD. We plan to
have the first of these meetings on Monday Dec. 15, 2003. To
accommodate more timezones will will have 2 calls. One at 8:00 AM
PST, and another at 4:00 PM PST and will also will connect to #mlp
       on IRC during these calls.

In the future we will attempt to set up toll free numbers, but this is
all we could do for now.

Hope to talk to as many of you as possible at the upcoming meetings, and
that we will be successful in helping you to continue your great work to
make Mozilla available in 98+ languages.

Thanks

Chris Hofmann
